About Tex Fischer

State Representative Tex Fischer is a small business owner serving his first full term in the Ohio House. He represents the 59th district, which encompasses southern Mahoning County and northwest Columbiana County.

Representative Fischer is the son of a teacher, the grandson of an auto worker, and a proud Mahoning Valley native. Born and raised in Youngstown, Tex now lives in Canfield with his wife, Julianna, and his two dogs, Leo and Lady.

Before joining the Ohio House, Tex spent ten years working on the ground to advance conservative policy and ideals. Most recently, he served as the National Field Director for the American Conservation Coalition from 2018 to 2021. After leading the ACC’s Field Department, he chose to pursue building his business full-time. He and his partners have built a national client base in the digital media space and have helped elect Republicans in seven states.

Representative Fischer has been heavily involved in community causes and campaigns for the last decade and serves in leadership of the Mahoning County Republican Party.

In the legislature, Tex is focused on reducing the tax burden on families and small businesses, supporting Ohio workers, and creating energy policy that puts the interests of ratepayers first.

He was assigned to the Commerce & Labor, Development, and Energy committees, and serves as Vice Chairman of the Natural Resources committee.

Where I stand

Ohio ranks 39/50 in overall state and local tax burden, worse than every single one of our neighboring states. Property taxes have skyrocketed, leaving homeowners stuck with huge tax bills. I am proud of the work we have done to end the unvoted property tax increases that have hammered homeowners and bring greater transparency for tax levies, but we have more work to do.
A healthy economy requires affordable and reliable energy. We have an abundance of natural resources in Ohio, but we are facing an energy crisis as electric bills have risen and our grid struggles to meet the demands of our economy. Ohio is positioned to be a national leader in energy generation, but we need to work to get more power online faster and push more large load users to build their own power plants to take the pressure off working families.
The average age of a first-time homebuyer is now 40. Homeownership is a cornerstone of the American dream, but it feels out of reach for millions of younger Ohioans. The supply of good homes in the Mahoning Valley has not kept up with demand, and inflation has sent housing costs through the roof all over America. I’ve introduced legislation to make it faster and more affordable to build homes in Ohio by streamlining the zoning and permitting process. More units on the market = lower prices.
In 2025, investors purchased 33% of all single-family homes sold in our country. Buying a home in today’s economy is already tough enough; families shouldn’t have to worry about getting outbid by a private equity firm. Houses are for people, not corporations.
No Ohio worker should be forced to compete with an illegal immigrant for a job. That’s why I authored Ohio’s E-Verify law. E-Verify is a free program that protects our workers from illegal competition that undercuts wages and risks public safety.
Every day, Ohioans are pulling double duty, working incredibly hard. Whether they're first responders, nurses, or manufacturing workers, people are working extra shifts to keep up with the cost of living and provide for their families. I introduced the No Tax on Overtime bill to put more money in the pockets of Ohio workers. If you're going to work in our state, you should be rewarded.
I’ve seen too many friends and family members move out of the area because they didn’t believe they could build the life they wanted for themselves here. I want to see a future where my kids and grandkids can stay in the Mahoning Valley and succeed. We need to create an environment that attracts new industries to spark the next great era in the Valley’s history.
Despite trillions of dollars of federal spending, the cost of healthcare is higher than ever. Our healthcare system has ballooned into a massive bureaucracy: great for insurance companies and hospital conglomerates, but bad for patients and care providers. I’m working to lower the cost of prescription drugs by going after the middle man—the PBMs—that engage in anti-competitive business practices and pad the bottom line of the insurance companies at our expense.
